Herbert Protocol for Missing Persons with Dementia

Herbert Protocol for Missing Persons with Dementia

Police Scotland have introduced a new ‘Herbert Protocol’. They have introduced this to give families reassurance and help keep your loved ones safe. The system provides the police with everything they need to know the search for the person living with dementia.

They are hoping to get this form out there to the wider public. So if this applies to anyone you know please complete the form linked below. The form is kept in the home, it contains information regarding known routines, habits as well as descriptions of your friend/relative and details of their and others involved with their care. It can be handed to police so that you do not have to worry about gathering the information during what can be a stressful time. The form will only be needed by the police when the person is reported missing and should be returned when the person is found.

It is a form that can be filled in by the person / their family with lots of helpful information that can help police locate the person if they ever go missing. Police Scotland have said, in the areas it was first used, it has been extremely useful when this has been implemented and has helped locate people quickly.
