NHS Lothian offer a podiatry service that can be accessed by completing the form below
Podiatry Self-Referral Form
You can refer yourself to the podiatry service if you have:
Pain in your feet or lower legs (muscle or joint problems)
Painful toenail issues
A foot condition and a serious health condition that increases your risk of foot ulcers or amputation
A foot wound that isn’t healing
A new foot ulcer related to diabetes – please refer these to the Diabetes Foot Clinic
Fallen due to a foot or ankle problem
Diabetes and a foot issue that puts you at risk of ulcers (a diabetes foot check can be done by any trained healthcare worker)
Referrals will not be accepted for routine foot care like:
Nail cutting
Fungal nail treatment (including taking nail samples)
Skin care for corns or hard skin
unless you have one or more of the following medical conditions:
Diabetes (with moderate or high foot risk)
Poor blood circulation in the legs or feet (Peripheral Arterial Disease)
Nerve damage in the feet (Neuropathy)
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Neurological conditions (e.g., Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Stroke)
Currently having chemotherapy
Have had a non-injury related foot or leg amputation
Kidney disease (Stage 4 or 5 Chronic Kidney Disease)
Taking steroid tablets
A weakened immune system
