New Patient Information

Welcome to Gilmore Medical Practice

We hope you have a positive experience with us. Below is some helpful information for new patients regarding the services we offer:


Prescriptions

  • Prescriptions can be requested online via our website.

  • You can also manage prescriptions through your local pharmacy’s app.

  • We have an in-house pharmacist available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You are welcome to discuss side effects or changes to your medications with them.


Contraception

  • Please book new and annual prescription appointments with our Practice Nurses.

    • At initial appointments, you will be issued with a 3-month supply.

    • At review appointments, you may receive up to a 12-month supply.

  • Long-term contraception (implants and coils) is available at the practice. Please contact Reception to arrange an initial telephone appointment with a GP.


STI Checks

  • Chlamydia and gonorrhoea tests can be requested via Reception.

  • HIV, Hepatitis, and Syphilis blood testing can be done by booking a nurse appointment.


Mental Health

  • We offer wellbeing appointments to discuss your mental health and social needs with our Practice Nurse.

  • You can also find helpful resources on our website under the Patient Information tab, including information on mental health, ADHD, and insomnia.


Physiotherapy

  • You can use this link to self-refer; a GP referral is not required.


Podiatry

  • You can use this link to self-refer; a GP referral is not required.


Weight Management

  • You can use this link to self-refer; a GP referral is not required.

Chronic Disease Management

(Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, High blood pressure, Heart Disease, Stroke)

  • You will be invited for an annual review around your birthday.


Blood Tests

  • Blood tests are only carried out if you have abnormal symptoms or a chronic health condition that requires monitoring.

  • If you are looking for general health check bloods, these must be arranged privately.


Minor Surgery / Steroid Joint Injections

  • These services are available at the practice. Please contact Reception for more information.


Private Prescriptions

  • We do not issue prescriptions from private providers that require a shared care agreement, including those for ADHD and gender-related medications. These will only be prescribed at the request of an NHS clinician.

  • Other private prescription requests may be issued at the discretion of the GP, provided they are commonly prescribed in general practice and we are in agreement with the private provider.


Medical Certificates

  • You do not require a medical certificate until you have been off work for 7 days. Please use a self-certification form for the first 7 days.

  • We will only issue a Not Fit for Work certificate if we feel you are unable to carry out any work. Otherwise, you may be issued with a May Be Fit for Work certificate.


Private Letters / Reports

  • These are not covered by the NHS and will incur a fee, which varies depending on the request.


Hepatitis C Blood Test

  • If you are from North Africa, Asia, the Middle East, or the Pacific Islands and have never been tested for Hepatitis C, please book an appointment with our Nurse.
