Weight Management Service
NHS Lothian provides a specialist service which supports people in Lothian to lead a healthy lifestyle, manage their weight and improve their health. There is no direct referral into the bariatric surgical service. All patients who wish to be considered for bariatric surgery are required to successfully complete the full weight management program.

Anti Obesity Medication
Anti Obesity Medication has grown in popularity and can be accessed from private providers. Your GP will not prescribe anti-obesity medication unless indicated for an existing medical condition. If choose to access these medications privately your GP will not continue this prescription on the NHS.
Please be aware that these medications are not safe in pregnancy and can affect the absorption of medication such as hormonal contraception, HRT and emergency contraception.
Please speak to our practice pharmacist if you have obtained a private Anti Obesity Medication prescription and are taking other medication.
